ザ・ナショナルの双子の兄弟ブライス・デスナーとアーロン・デスナーが企画したグレイトフル・デッドのトリビュート・アルバム『デイ・オブ・ザ・デッド』が、2016年6月15日にリリースされる。

　以前よりデスナー兄弟がインタビューなどで言及していたこのプロジェクトは、完成まで4年もの歳月を費やし、5枚組全59曲、総収録時間約6時間という壮大なトリビュート・アルバムとなっている。

　参加しているアーティストは、ウィルコ、マムフォード・アンド・サンズ、ジャスティン・ヴァーノン（ボン・イヴェール）、ザ・フレーミング・ リップス、スティーヴン・マルクマス（ペイヴメント）、アイラ・カプラン（ヨ・ラ・テンゴ）などの超豪華アーティスト達。

　デスナー兄弟が音楽を始めるきっかけとなったバンドがグレイトフル・デッドということもあり今回のこのプロジェクトには並々ならぬ情熱が注がれており、兄弟が14歳の時に現在のザ・ナショナルのドラマー、ブライアン・デベンドルフとともに行った最初のジャム・セッションでは「Eyes of the World」を数時間演奏したとのことだ。
